  • Here comes a beautiful coffee from a beautiful land, produced by family owned farms located in the Kintamani highlands on the island province of Bali, Indonesia. Coffee production is typically organized around a Subak Abian, which refers to the ecologically sustainable irrigation systems developed more than 1,000 years ago by Hindu priests who practice Tri Hita Karana (the three sources of prosperity), a philosophy focused on the harmonization between the environment, humans and God.

Bali Blue Moon’s birthplace has been heavily regulated by the Indonesian island’s government since the 1970s, which is a bittersweet situation––on one hand, farmers may have less individual control over their crops. On the other hand, it means the quality, handling, and processing are consistently excellent.

No matter what, Blue Moon stands out as a jewel among the Indonesian coffees as the use of pesticides and chemicals are illegal. The fruits are organically grown using 100% organic fertilizers on the volcanic soils of Mount Agung along with citrus trees that provide shade and another source of income. Improved coffee growing practices have only increased the worth of the remarkable beans which play an important role in the nationwide Bali economy.

Cup notes: overwhelmingly rich, syrupy dark baker's chocolate, creamy mouthfeel notes of cocoa, vanilla, cedar, and hints of slight smoky tone. Blue Moon is definitely a cousin to Sumatra or Sulawesi coffee but smoother without as much earthiness, or swampy fruit; overall a definite go to for our strong-medium or dark roasts.
